On the route between Algeciras and Tangier you have the choice between regular ferries and high-speed services. A high-speed ferry crosses the Strait of Gibraltar in less than one hour. Regular ferries take between 90 minutes and two hours.
There's at least one ferry every hour until around 10 PM, even in winter. During the summer the frequency is even higher. Nevertheless, waiting time before boarding in Algeciras can run up to ten hours at the end of July and the beginning of August. This is when millions of Moroccan living in Europe return home for the summer.
Fares for a one-way ticket start at around 25 or 30 euro per person one-way, no matter whether you take a high-speed service or a "slow" ferry.

Algeciras to Ceuta

Many travelers find Tangier an overwhelming introduction to Morocco. That's why a lot of people prefer to take a ferry to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, or Sebta as the Moroccans call the town.
There are high-speed ferries which take around 30 minutes to cross from Algeciras to Ceuta. Fares are around 25 euro one-way per person, and 65 euro for a car.


Traveling by car
If you're driving your own car, Ceuta is probably the better choice to enter Morocco. It's certainly less stressful in summer.
To get from Ceuta to Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech, first take the N16 to Tangier, then the N1, which leads all the way south to Mauritania. The N1 between Asilah and Settat is a toll road.
For Chefchaouen, Meknes, Fes and the east of Morocco, take the N16 south to Tetouan, then change for the N13. The N13 will take you all the way to Merzouga.
